Toketee Falls and Umpqua Hot Springs

Lemolo Lake was the perfect home base for some cool little hikes and trips in the area. We headed out on a hike with two destinations in mind: Toketee Falls and Umpqua Hot Springs. We had a nice little hike to the waterfall, and it was beautiful.

Here are the kids competing in a "marathon" that involved climbing across fallen trees. It's always funny listening to the games and stories they make up when we go on hikes.

The next mission was Umpqua Hot Springs. The idea was to get there early and enjoy the nice hot springs while it was still cool and before the...ummm...others that like to enjoy hot springs got there (hot springs tend to draw a very interesting crowd, and we were trying to avoid any awkward moments with the kids). We had a general idea of where they were, but had trouble nailing down exactly how to get there. We headed out on a trail that we thought would get us there...about 2 miles into it, we came across some mountain bikers and asked how far. They said we were still quite a ways away, and told us to go back to our car, drive down some road he had a name for (but there was no sign), go through a camp site, take a turn, park and then hike up.

We headed off based on those directions, and we would have totally gotten lost if hadn't been for some really nice citizen that helped us out:
People who know where the hot springs are REALLY do not want others to know about it.
We went up a really, really steep hike to get there.
It was beautiful, but by the time we got there and after all the hiking we'd done, it was about 85 degrees out and the last thing we wanted to do was get in a pool of 110 degree water. Plus, it was kind of scary having the kids up there on the cliffs.

We did enjoy them for a bit and then hiked back down. We were quite satisfied - we were so determined to find it, and luckily we did.
